Extractions

What it is:

The removal of a tooth due to disease, trauma, or decay. In veterinary dentistry, extractions are done carefully under anesthesia to ensure your pet feels no pain. While removing a tooth may sound serious, it’s often the healthiest choice when the tooth is causing discomfort or infection.

Why a pet might need it:
Pets may need an extraction if they have severe periodontal disease, a broken or loose tooth, a dental abscess, or root damage. In these cases, keeping the tooth can lead to ongoing pain, inflammation, and infection that might spread to other teeth or even major organs. Extractions relieve pain, stop infection, and help prevent further oral health issues.

How it works:
During the procedure, our doctors use advanced dental imaging to assess the tooth and surrounding bone. After your pet is placed under anesthesia, we carefully remove the affected tooth and smooth the socket to promote healing. The area may be sutured with dissolvable stitches, and pain control is provided throughout recovery. With proper aftercare, most pets recover quickly and feel much more comfortable.
